Family Engagement and Support

AB Christian Learning Center believes that family engagement must be incorporated into everything we do.

AB Christian Learning Center believes that family engagement must be incorporated into everything we do.

We constantly ask ourselves: What is the best way to provide information to families? How can families become authentic co-partners with educators so they are empowered to support their child’s academic progress?

Family engagement takes many forms. AB Christian leaders meet regularly with parents and caregivers to foster active involvement in their children’s education. We talk with families about the positive impact of reading with young children and good habits such as strong school attendance.

We provide quarterly learning forums with community experts representing many resources – from health care and early childhood education to college and career support. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to volunteer in our program or during after-hours events.

The Power of 7

We constantly ask ourselves: What is the best way to provide information to families? How can families become authentic co-partners with educators so they are empowered to support their child’s academic progress?

AB Christian Learning Center believes in the “Power of 7,” a community-based, parent and family engagement model designed to support parents and caregivers as they become co-partners in their child’s education. Our founder Loretta Burns introduced the concept in 2016 at a National League of Cities conference in Michigan.

The Power of 7 is grounded in the knowledge that everyone knows, has a personal relationship with and can influence at least seven others. Parent and family engagement can become highly effective based on existing personal relationships among individuals who influence children’s lives.

What are our goals?
● Create an environment that supports parents and families as strong leaders and advocates for their children. ● Empower parents and families to be agents of change.
● Empower parents and families to be co-creators when important decisions and investments are being made that impact their children’s education.
● Empower parents and families to be the drivers of how local early child care, education, health and economic well-being programs and services are delivered.

How Does the Power of 7 Support Families?

● Learn how to access and make the most of community resources that support children’s cognitive development and learning.
● Take advantage of training, information, support and available resources that support families.
● Receive personal support and encouragement to solve problems and implement solutions for children.
● Receive advocacy support to help navigate the school system
